You said what??? And in CHURCH???

Only one of my kids would make this story possible!
So, we were in Church, Christmas Eve mass at midnight. Beautiful mass with the lights down low, beautilful music, families all around...it is my favorite time to go to church on Christmas. My mom and dad and my 2 girls were there. On my left was my oldest and my right my youngest. They both stayed awake and participated, sang and prayed, it was perfect......until the hand shake. (If you are't familiar with Catholic masses, there is a point in the mass where you share "peace" with the people surrounding you, some choose to kiss each other others choose to shake hands.) I shook each of my daughters hands, my mom and dads, the people behind me. My youngest is trying to get my oldest to shake her hand. My oldest (being 13 and too cool to shake her little sisters ahnd, tries to blow her off). The youngest still tries, until finally I hear, under her breath, thank the good lord....."screw you".....yep you read it right. Needless to say I about fell over. My youngest is 9, she had no idea what she had just said, but certainly, from the shocked look on my face, knew that it must have been something "bad", something she shouldn't have said. So the mass went on and soon ended. On the way home I said, "Macy, do you know what "screw you" means? " of course she replied "no". I am thinking how I am going to tell her, tactfully, just what "screw you" means....(if you know a tactful way to explain it I would love to hear it.) So I say, "if you say that to someone it is the same as saying "f-you" to someone", she said, "oh my gosh sissy I am so sorry, I didn't know what it meant." ok, that was settled, she understood by me explaining it in the terms of "THE BIG BAD WORD" that she had better never say it again!!!
Only my kids!!!

Why do they always pick the most inappropriate places to say such things? Kids!

Sandy said...

It's not only your kids. Mine are the same way.I now try to keep them as far from each other as possible in church. Not easy to do with five kids. LOL!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!
peace and love,

Things like that always seem to happen at the most appropriate places!! hehe

Of course it happened at church - that's always a good place to try new phrases out. If Mom doesn't kill you on the spot then you can try it again at the checkout counter. Funny!

Why do they do that stuff in church? Ah, good thing it was said quietly or you would have been so embarrassed!

You can giggle about it now!

I scolded my husband the other day because he used to say things like stupid, idiot and all that stuff and I warned him that before because our daughter can easily grap words that she hewars from us... I was shocked when I finally heard my daughter said it...

Oops. Glad to know it will never happen again.

Too funny! :)
My 2 year old kept saying "I wanna go home" out loud and finally I had to sit the rest of the service out in the hallway with her.

The Wife O Riley said...

That was really funny!! But at least she didn't yell it.

My kids are the same, that is why we sit in the last row so to make a quick escape.

Oh that is too funny. I remember when I was in 7th grade I used a word under my breathe in art class. I thought it was a swear word. Turns out it was a part of the male anatomy that rhythms with motom. Talk about embarrassing when the poor art teacher had to explain to me what I said on the spot! ugh!

RebeccaMom said...

Happy SITS day! Oh, how funny. Yes, the kids do choose the worst times and places to speak up (thank goodness your family were the only ones to hear!)

We were at a wedding once, at a very conservative church where they only take grape juice at communion. My 3-yr. old son, who had been "receiving" for a while in our liberal Episcopal church, looked up, noted that only the bride and groom were being communed, and said, loudly and indignantly, "*I* want some wine!"

Have a great day!

Oh my that is hilarious. I actually heard one that tops that tho. A friend of mine was in church with her family, including her 4 kids, the youngest being 4. Half way during service, talking about how Jesus died on the cross for our sins, the 4 year old, very loudly exclaims 'holy crap! when did Jesus die?!'. All she had been taught was about baby Jesus. It was quite a shock to her.
