Only one of my kids would make this story possible!
So, we were in
Church, Christmas Eve mass at midnight.
Beautiful mass with the lights down low,
beautilful music, families all around...it is my
favorite time to go to church on
Christmas. My
mom and dad and
my 2 girls were there. On my left was my
oldest and my right my
youngest. They both stayed awake and participated,
sang and prayed, it was
perfect......until the
hand shake.
(If you are't familiar with Catholic masses, there is a point in the mass where you share "peace" with the people surrounding you, some choose to kiss each other others choose to shake hands.) I shook each of my
daughters hands, my mom and dads, the people behind me. My
youngest is trying to get my
oldest to shake her hand. My oldest
(being 13 and too cool to shake her little sisters ahnd, tries to blow her off). The
youngest still tries, until finally I hear, under her breath, thank the good
lord....."screw you".....yep you read it right.
Needless to say I about fell over. My
youngest is 9, she had
no idea what she had just said, but
certainly, from the shocked look on my face, knew that it must have been something "bad", something she shouldn't have said. So the mass went on and soon ended. On the way home I said, "Macy, do you know what "screw you" means? " of course she replied "no". I am thinking how I am going to tell her, tactfully, just what "screw you" means....(if you know a tactful way to explain it I would love to hear it.) So I say, "if you say that to someone it is the same as saying "f-you" to someone", she said, "oh my gosh sissy I am so sorry, I didn't know what it meant." ok, that was settled, she understood by me explaining it in the terms of "THE BIG BAD WORD" that she had better never say it again!!! Only my kids!!!

sorry to have a huge giggle at your expense....but that was awesome.
oh, we all laughed about after that fact...i was just shocked at first!! lol
I guess it could've been worse... But sounds like it won't be happening again any time soon!
Why do they always pick the most inappropriate places to say such things? Kids!
It's not only your kids. Mine are the same way.I now try to keep them as far from each other as possible in church. Not easy to do with five kids. LOL!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!
peace and love,
Sandy
Things like that always seem to happen at the most appropriate places!! hehe
Hahahaha! Hilarious!
Of course it happened at church - that's always a good place to try new phrases out. If Mom doesn't kill you on the spot then you can try it again at the checkout counter. Funny!
I can totally hear her saying it too!! You don't know whether to laugh or cry...lmao
Oh yeah, what is it about church? I posted my church story last Sunday! They just never end......LOL!
My son once told the ladies at day care that our neighbor was a "fugging asshole...."
yeah....it was a CHURCH day care.....
Why do they do that stuff in church? Ah, good thing it was said quietly or you would have been so embarrassed!
You can giggle about it now!
Ahhhhh.....Christmas memories!!! :)
That is too funny! Yeah, I would have just said it was bad and dropped it.....
That's sooo funny! Merry Christmas!
yeah, its hard to explain things sometimes to the kids...
btw, I am now following your blog..
I scolded my husband the other day because he used to say things like stupid, idiot and all that stuff and I warned him that before because our daughter can easily grap words that she hewars from us... I was shocked when I finally heard my daughter said it...
Oops. Glad to know it will never happen again.
Too funny! :)
My 2 year old kept saying "I wanna go home" out loud and finally I had to sit the rest of the service out in the hallway with her.
That was really funny!! But at least she didn't yell it.
My kids are the same, that is why we sit in the last row so to make a quick escape.
Yup ... those are kids alright! ...
Stop by - I have an award for you!
Cynthia
Oh my goodness!! The things kids say!! Truly makes life interesting!! Good way to explain it!!!!!
:)

Ha! Now you need to ask her if she knows what F-you means!
Oh. My. Goodness.
Sorry but I got a good giggle out of that. LOL
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
OMG, that is too funny! I am sure Jesus will forgive her, since it's the season of giving and all.
Oh, LOL! That is classic! That will be a great story to pull out on Christmas in 20 years!
hee hee hee! And on Christmas Eve!
Happy SITS Day!
Dang... Out of the mouths' of babes.
Thank goodness we are forgiven!
It is kinda funny! Maybe because I don't have kids yet!
What a cute story - I am sure if it was not your kids you'd have a nice giggle about it, like I am doing right now!
That's a fantastic 'inappropriate comment' kids story!
well, from the mouths of babes.
Aww cute!!
Stopping by from SITS... have a great day!!
Stopping by from SITS to say hi. Cute story!
Yikes! I guess you could be thankful she didn't SCREAM it! :)
LOL Stopping by from SITS to say "HI"
That is sooo funny! Happy SITS day!
At least it was accidental bad language in church.
Happy SITS day.
Thanks for the laugh this morning!
Congrats on being Featured Blogger.
Have a great day!
Kids keep you on your toes. You just never know :-)
carma
Oh that is too funny. I remember when I was in 7th grade I used a word under my breathe in art class. I thought it was a swear word. Turns out it was a part of the male anatomy that rhythms with motom. Talk about embarrassing when the poor art teacher had to explain to me what I said on the spot! ugh!
wow, I don't know how I would have handled that... probably would have freaked out right there in church! Good job keeping your cool until later :)
Too funny! I love to hear other stories about the wonderful things our kids sometimes say!
Reminds me of the time my daughter sang the ABC's during communion...the quietest time in any church. Ah, the memories. Thanks for sharing yours.
haha! Happy Sits day!
Oh my stars, that is hilarious. Can you imagine this taking place between adults?
Adult A: "Peace be with you."
Adult B: "Screw you!"
Bwahahahahahaha!
I know that was a teachable moment for you as a parent, but hello...it's just HYSTERICAL, too.
:-) Happy SITs day! Great story!
Wow. In church? Well I am glad you saw the funny after the fact, especially since she didn't know the meaning of the word.
oh that was quite funny!
happy SITS day!!
LOL, sounds like something my oldest would do!
That is too funny! Happy SITS Day!
Nothing like a little Christmas in March. Thanks!
Oh NO! That is too funny. Thankfully she said it quietly.
That is hilarious!!
I think things like that only happen in church. Thank goodness it didn't get quiet when she said it and no one else heard it.
OMG! I'm just waiting for a bombshell to drop from either of my two girlies. I know it's going to happen! LOL!!!!!
Happy SITS day!
Oh but that is hilarious in hindsight, isn't it? LOL
Congrats on your SITS day!
Of course that had to happen in church! HA!
This story still makes me chuckle! I'm glad I'm not the only one;0)
Happy SITS day! Oh, how funny. Yes, the kids do choose the worst times and places to speak up (thank goodness your family were the only ones to hear!)
We were at a wedding once, at a very conservative church where they only take grape juice at communion. My 3-yr. old son, who had been "receiving" for a while in our liberal Episcopal church, looked up, noted that only the bride and groom were being communed, and said, loudly and indignantly, "*I* want some wine!"
Oh how I am happy I only have to take 1 child to church! Hah.........
Congrats on being FB today!!!!
Happy SITS day! And it could have been worse, she could have yelled it. :)
Oh no. You never know where or what they will say.
Stopping by from SITS. The things kids pick up and have no idea what it means and then say them at the most inappropriate times. Thankfully you can laugh about it now, but I'm sure if I'd been in your shoes I'd have been just as shocked.
Ah kids! At least she did it quietly and didn't scream it!!
Nothing like a good learning experience!
Cute story! :)
Happy SITS day!
Happy SITS Day and trust me. It ain't only YOUR kids LOL! Isn't it funny how kids pick up things like that and then just innocently repeat them at the most awkward moments? I'm with Anne, she could have said it REALLY loud so thank goodness she didn't!
Have a great day!
Mary
That's hilarious! Leave it to kids to keep you on your toes!
Hee hee! Too funny! While the language was inappropriate for the occasion, it is pretty impressive that the usage was actually quite appropriate :)
That reminds me of the time we were at a family party and my daughter (she was around 10) called her brother a prick! We had the same situation going on as you did, she had no idea what that even meant. (thank heavens we were not in church)
Happy SITS Day! Funny post!
What a lovely blog, and what a hugely entertaining story for all the SiTS gals, sorry it was at your expense! :)
I raised my son by myself and I don't know what I would have done without my mom and dad. My mom was my saving grace!
ah yes I remember the "Peace" days. LOL! I would have been mortified but knowing the relationship of my now 10 yo DD and my 12 yo DS, I would have cheered for the DD. inwardly.
Stopping by from SiTS! Nice to "meet" you!
Too funny...well, looking back on the memory is, but I'm sure that you were absolutely mortified when it happened!
Thanks for sharing!
Oh my gosh, that is funny! But sweet at the end when she realized what it meant and apologized.
Ah, now THAT'S a story to tell her grandkids. :) Congrats on your SITS day.
You just never ever know what is going to come out of kid's mouths! Cute story!!
We're pretty close I live between Dayton and Cincinnati. I sold Longaberger until this year so I've been in your neck of the woods a lot. Beautiful views!
Happy SITS Day!
That's hilarious!
I think we all have a secret fear that our children will say "SOMETHING" wrong in church. I did smile. It has happened to me a time or two!! Kids, gotta love em.
That is hilarious! Kids make church entertaining, thats for sure!
These are the times when I repeat the mantra in my head, "The Lord loves little children. The Lord loves little children." And that helps me get through the embarrasing moments when I just wish mine would disappear! Funny story (looking back, right?) Happy SITS FB day to you!
out of the mouth of babes. When my daughter was 3 she came home from daycare & called a "bo-ho" (butt hole). Needless to say, I had a chat with the daycare the next day. I think it happens to everyone at one time or another.
You never know what kids will say...at least she understood it was bad when you explained it.
AND she didn't yell it out!
Happy SITS day to my Welcomista pal!
That was funny! Sorry to laugh at your expense. Great post!
Funny! At least she didn't say it loudly!
OMG, that is such a funny story! At least it is always pretty loud during the handshaking part so that it wasn't heard throughout the church!
What a great story! You never know what a kid is going to say! Happy SITS day!
Oh so funny. I have two girls too, 24 and 22 and they have had there moments.
Happy SITS day!
Happy SITS Day!
Ok, the real sad/funny part of this story is that you explained it with the f-bomb!
Hilarious!
Oh goodness! At least she was sweet about it and sincerely appoligized.
My kids enjoy making the baby scream in church so I will take them home. How do I win this one??
Happy SITS day to you!
That's pretty hilarious! Oh the joys of kids
Oh, kids are always on their best behavior at church :)
I think this was even funnier the second time around!
Funny! Happy SITS day! =)
Oh my, that is funny. The best part that it happened in church ahaha.
Oh my, how embarrassing! Funny though!
I love it when my girls pop off with some phrase like that... I mean.. I secretly love it... outwardly I have to appear shocked. Because i'm a good mom that way.
LOL, at least it wasn't during a quiet time when everyone else can hear it.
I am sorry but I am still laughing. I am just thankful that it wasn't me... yet.
Out of the mouths of babes!
Nothing like a good "Screw you" in church! I would have died laughing. At least she didn't say it really loudly and make other people stare!
Enjoy your SITS day and all the lovely comments!
That is too funny!
Goodness, I bet you were thanking the Lord right then that she had said it quietly!! Definitely one of those moments where you want the ground to open up and swallow you whole, rigth?
Heee heee. My kids would totally do that too (and in church). So, you are not alone!
i would have been mortified.
Oh my that is hilarious. I actually heard one that tops that tho. A friend of mine was in church with her family, including her 4 kids, the youngest being 4. Half way during service, talking about how Jesus died on the cross for our sins, the 4 year old, very loudly exclaims 'holy crap! when did Jesus die?!'. All she had been taught was about baby Jesus. It was quite a shock to her.
At least she said it under her breath right?
What a moment! Thanks for sharing.
That is funny and even funnier because it happened in church!
Oh.my.goodness. I think I would've probably pee'ed my pants laughing, or knocked her to the moon! (not really, but you know what I mean!)
Happy SITS day! :)
Wow. My kids would NEVER say that ... under their breath. They'd just belt it right out and then probably finish it with "Why are YOU so bitchy??"
Lord help us. And our children.
lol
Of COURSE it happens at church! Happy SITS day!
LOL!!!! too funny.... My kids seem to make all the impossible stories true too!
LOL-we call my oldest "Sissy", too. Good job explaining the sassiness of the term without delving into particulars, mom!
That is super funny, congratulations on being on the spotlight today!
that is just too funny. congrats on your feature day.
oh my!! good one, well not good but good, oh you know what I mean!!
Happy SITS day
I'm laughing with you, not at you! Honestly!!!
That was a great story!
Ha, that's hilarious! Okay not so much...but funny that she chose to say that in Church, tee hee!
Happy SITS day!
Jamie :-)
It's amazing how early kids pick up such sayings...and having no clue what they mean!
I promise it's not just your kids! Mine have had a few choice phrases over the years.
Out of the mouths of babes! I'm glad you schooled her on what it means... sad, she probably hears "f-you" at school. EVerything happens at an earlier age nowadays.
This reminds me of the mother of all bad words... "Oh F-U-D-G-E!" Ralphie, you'll shoot your eye out!
OMG, this is hysterical!!!
Hilarious!! At least it was whispered and not yelled out!!
That is too funny!
Priceless!
That's great! You have to have those kid moments to fall back on for a good laugh!
Happy SITS day!
I have 12 and 9 year old girls, and would not be surprised about anything that came out of either their mouths. But in church? Too funny :)
kids always pick church to spout the most embarrassing comments!! Happy SITS day!
How funny! My kids are always asking, in their OUTSIDE voice, "Is mass over yet?"
I'm visiting from SITS, and so excited to find another Ohio blogger! I live in New Albany (NE of Columbus) so we're pretty close!
OH MY!
Kids have the most perfect timing don't they!
Wow!! That made a Christmas memory none of you will ever forget!
That was too funny!
Happy SITS day!
So funny...even if it wasn't funny at the moment!!!
You gotta look back on it and laugh. It was a teachable, but laughable moment. Well done mom, you handled it well.
That's hilarious! Thanks for the great laugh. Just be glad your kid didn't do like one of my friends kid's did & totally strip down to nothing under the pew so she could put a "change of clothes" on, that were in her diaper bag!
LOL, reminds me of a story, my best friend grew up Catholic, and when she was little (about 6ish) and the priest came down the isle swinging incense she asked REALLY LOUDLY, "Is that GOD?!?"
Dropping by from SITS. Your girls sure are characters!
It reminds me of the time (almost 20 years ago) that following church my brother pestered my mom, she muttered a "Jesus Christ" under her breath and he promptly asked - WHERE MOMMY, WHERE?!?!
Zanesville?!
Is that a real town or are you just 'screwing with us'....ha ha....
Out of mouths of babes! Too funny (well not for you)!
this is what kids are good for. stories to post on your blog! Over from SITS..enjoyed the post!
The sign of peace can get us into trouble every time!
I'm feeling your pain.
Congrats on your SITS day.
holy crapola! I think I would have hauled off and... oh wait, church, sign of peace... yeah, I would have waited until the drive home too. : )
I read you everyday, cool that you are the big cheese today. Funny as heck!
Thanks for the funny story.
Stopping by from SIST
Oh my goodness! So very funny! Congrats on all your blog-love today :)
At least it was under her breath!

Did you look for a rock to crawl under? I would have dove under the pew at least. Thanks for sharing this story.
You handled it well! I think all mothers can relate to this experience!
Xazmin
lol! oh, but what would your life be without kids yelling profanities during mass?
congrats on SITS!
That is so funny. I feel I can relate. My 7 year old innocently began reading the lewd graffiti on a playground structure the other day. Sniff. Must bring Sharpie next time so I can CROSS IT ALL OUT!!
Anyway, thanks for the great post!!
Ha. Kids. At least she's standing up for herself, that's a good thing.
LOL. That was a great way to deal with the comment, in the terms of the BIG BAD WORD! Have a wonderful day!
hey, at least she was honest and shared her feelings. stifling is what i learned in church as a child. not so healthy.
Thanks for the chuckle! Dropping by from SITS
Oh, gosh! At least it was under her breath! Too funny!
Now if you can't be honest in church, where CAN you be?! :)
Hope you had a great SITS Day! Sorry I'm late!
Ahhhh, sibling rivalry. Gotta love it :) But at least she felt bad about it afterwards, right?
Whew! I'm sure that Christmas Eve will not be forgotten. :)
I'm visiting you from SITS! Congrats on being a featured blogger. I can see that you certainly deserve the honor. Great blog!
Visiting from SITSA! Love the font changes in your blog.
